Spring is here, and with it, the opportunity to enjoy fresh air both inside and outside. Taking the time to improve your indoor air quality is one of the easiest ways to kickstart your health and well-being during this time of the year. Read on to learn more about simple solutions you can implement at home or in your office.

Improve Ventilation

One of the key components of maintaining healthy indoor air quality is proper ventilation. Ensuring there is adequate airflow throughout your home or office will help keep pollutants from becoming trapped inside. This can be done by opening windows, using fans, and installing an HVAC system with a ventilation option if you don’t already have one. If you do have an HVAC system, make sure all vents are clean and unobstructed for optimum performance.

Proper Filtration

In addition to ventilation, proper filtration plays an important role in keeping indoor air clean and free from contaminants such as dust, pollen, pet dander, and other allergens that can cause health problems like asthma or allergies. Filters should be regularly replaced according to manufacturer instructions. Scheduling regular professional inspections will also ensure that the unit is operating efficiently with no blockages. Investing in an advanced filtration system may also be necessary for particularly large spaces or those with high levels of airborne pollutants.

Monitor Humidity Levels

High humidity levels indoors create an ideal environment for dust mites which can exacerbate respiratory conditions like asthma. In order to maintain a healthy level of humidity indoors (ideally between 30-50%), consider investing in a dehumidifier that will remove excess moisture, thus keeping the air dry but not overly so, which could lead to dry skin and other ailments related to low humidity environments (less than 20%). Regularly monitoring humidity levels will go a long way toward ensuring maximum comfort and optimal health.
