Save Money By Cleaning Your Air Filters

Remembering To Clean Your Air Filters

When your HVAC system is running smoothly, it can be relatively silent, so you may not be thinking about it all the time. While it’s easy to forget about cleaning your air filters, you need to set reminders to regularly clean or replace your filters to avoid costly damage to your home and health. If you want your wallet to slim down before beach season, be our guest and don’t clean your air filters. However, if you like saving money, here are a few reasons you should clean those filters!

Save Money On Your Energy Bills

A clean filter means a more energy-efficient HVAC system. The problem with a dirty filter is that all the allergens, dust, and bacteria can clog up a filter making it not only hazardous for your home’s air quality but it puts strain on your HVAC system. Dirty filters can cause your HVAC system to cool or heat your home unevenly, meaning you’re going to be using your HVAC system a lot longer than you need to, and that racks up the bill.

Avoid Constant Repairs

While we love our customers, we also want what’s best for your HVAC system, and cleaning filters can avoid numerous HVAC repairs. The added strain of dirty filters can wear down components of your HVAC system a lot faster than normal usage. While these fixes can be quick, if you do not address the source of these problems and clean your air filters regularly, you’re just going to burn money on constant repairs.

Do I Wash Or Replace My Air Filter?

Air filter maintenance depends on the type of air filter you have installed in your HVAC system. You can replace cheaper and disposable air filters at least every two months to avoid excessive build-up of dust and other contaminants. With higher MERV-rated permanent filters, you don’t need to replace them but instead, wash them every so often by gently spraying them with water. Make sure to dry your filters entirely before reinstalling them to avoid any build-up of mold!

Disposable filters are cheaper upfront and easy to buy several to have on hand throughout the year for replacements. Permanent filters can be a bit more expensive initially, but you can save long term. Deciding between disposable filters and permanent filters can depend on your budget and your HVAC system, as not every filter will be best suited for some appliances.

At Dodrill Comfort & Energy Solutions we can help you clean your air filters and even find the filter that will save you money. Give us a call at (304) 212-2004, and we’ll make sure to get your HVAC system running like brand new.
