Routinely groom your pets.
- An excess amount of fur and dander in your home can decrease your indoor air quality and dirty your air filters quickly. Picking up fur balls and regular grooming will help minimize the amount of fur and dust gathering in your air ducts.
Keep the system on when you leave your home.
- Installing a smart thermostat can allow you to set both ‘home’ and ‘away’ settings for your home’s temperature. Remember, your pets will get warm too if it’s 90+ degrees inside! Using a smart thermostat with an ‘away’ setting can help keep your pets cool while you’re away from home.
Properly maintain your HVAC system.
- Don’t let a curious cat or dog nibble on exposed cords or wires of your HVAC system. Whether it be indoors or outdoors, hire a professional to set up and maintain your HVAC system so an exposed panel or wire is never a concern.
Change your air filters frequently.
- If it’s been 3 months since you changed your air filter, it’s probably time for a new one. Some air filters recommend replacement every 6 months, but if you've got a few animals in your home it’s best to change your filters more frequently. Doing so can help reduce allergies and increase your indoor air quality.
